Supreme Court Accepts Case Against Election Commission Over Senate Certification
The Supreme Court of Thailand has accepted a petition challenging the Election Commission's certification of two senators, alleging they registered under incorrect professional groups.
On September 9, 2026, the Supreme Court’s Election Case Division officially accepted a petition (Case No. LT.SW. 10/2569) filed by reserve senator Akkarawat Pongthanachalitkul. The legal challenge targets the Election Commission (EC), led by Chairman Ittiporn Boonpracong and Secretary-General Sawaeng Boonmee, regarding the 2024 Senate selection process.
The petitioner alleges that two senators from Amnat Charoen province, identified as Mrs. Daeng Kongma and Mr. Somphan, were certified despite registering under incorrect professional categories. Mr. Akkarawat is seeking a judicial review to determine whether the selection process was conducted with the integrity and fairness required by law. Additionally, Mr. Akkarawat has filed a separate criminal complaint against the Director of the Amnat Charoen Election Commission, alleging the concealment of information related to these registrations.
