Former Football Star Sergio Agüero Linked to Argentine Drug Investigation
Argentine authorities investigating a drug trafficking ring have discovered that suspects attempted to use Sergio Agüero’s name to legitimize illicit business operations.
According to reports from Khaosod Online, a drug trafficking investigation in Buenos Aires has revealed that a criminal network attempted to recruit former Manchester City striker Sergio Agüero. Court documents indicate that for five months, the group sought to use Agüero’s reputation to provide credibility to two ticket-selling companies allegedly used for money laundering.
Authorities clarified that Agüero is not a suspect in the case. The investigation began in June following a customs seizure of 12 liters of liquid ecstasy at Ezeiza Airport. Subsequent raids across Buenos Aires led to the arrest of 11 individuals and the seizure of drugs, cash, and mobile devices. Data recovered from these devices frequently mentioned the former footballer. On August 28, prosecutors arrested Pablo 'Bebote' Álvarez, a known leader of the Independiente hooligan group, who is accused of involvement in the importation of synthetic drugs from Spain and cocaine from Bolivia.
For residents and travelers, this case highlights the ongoing efforts by Argentine authorities to dismantle organized crime networks operating within the country's sports and entertainment sectors. While the investigation into the money laundering scheme continues, the extent of the criminal group's reach remains under scrutiny.
