Thai Ministry of Transport Adjusts 2027 Budget to Prioritize Fiscal Discipline
The Ministry of Transport has deferred a 3.5 billion baht office construction project to align with government fiscal policies, while adjusting highway project allocations based on historical spending data.
On September 8, 2026, Nantana Songpracha, a Bhumjaithai Party list MP and chair of the subcommittee on land and construction, provided details regarding the Ministry of Transport’s 2027 fiscal budget. According to Khaosod Online, the Ministry is prioritizing fiscal discipline by deferring the construction of a new office building, which had a committed budget of over 3.55 billion baht. Instead, the Ministry will utilize the former tourism building, incurring costs of 6 million baht for rent and 20 million baht for renovations.
Regarding large-scale infrastructure, the Ministry addressed concerns about initial budget allocations for Department of Highways projects exceeding 1 billion baht. Officials noted that the first-year budget is set at 10%, as historical data shows an average first-year disbursement rate of 4.44%. This adjustment is intended to ensure sufficient funding for the 36-month procurement process without hindering other projects.
For residents and travelers, these adjustments reflect a shift toward cost-efficiency in government infrastructure spending.
