Freight Train Derailment in Chonburi Resolved
The State Railway of Thailand has cleared the tracks following a freight train derailment caused by missing rail fasteners.
On September 4, 2026, at approximately 1:24 PM, freight train No. 845, traveling from the Lat Krabang Inland Container Depot to Laem Chabang Port, derailed while passing through the Chonburi station area. The incident involved the final six carriages of the train, which obstructed both inbound and outbound traffic on the Eastern Line.
According to a report from Khaosod Online, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) identified the cause of the derailment as missing rail fasteners; specifically, seven out of eight bolts were found to be absent at the site. Following the incident, civil engineering and mechanical teams utilized heavy machinery to recover the derailed carriages and repair the damaged track.
By 1:25 AM on September 5, the SRT successfully reopened the Chonburi–Bang Phra section. Shortly thereafter, at 1:30 AM, freight train No. 554 was able to pass through the area safely.
For travelers and residents in the region, this incident highlights potential disruptions to rail logistics. While the immediate obstruction has been cleared and normal operations have resumed, the investigation into how the rail fasteners went missing remains a point of interest. Commuters using the Eastern Line should monitor official SRT announcements for any residual schedule adjustments or maintenance-related delays.
