Thai Trade Commission Investigates Platform Fees and Practices

The Trade Competition Commission of Thailand (TCCT) is holding focus groups with riders and restaurant owners to address concerns over high platform fees and potentially unfair contract terms.

On September 3, 2026, the Trade Competition Commission of Thailand (TCCT) initiated a series of focus group discussions involving riders and restaurant operators. According to Khaosod Online, this move follows a public consultation period that concluded on August 31, 2026. The commission is investigating the digital ecosystem of ride-hailing and on-demand food delivery platforms.

Worawan Chitaroon, a member of the TCCT and chair of the subcommittee overseeing ride-hailing market competition, stated that the sessions aim to gather firsthand accounts regarding the business practices of these platforms. Key areas of concern include the high Gross Profit (GP) commission rates charged to merchants, as well as contract conditions and system management practices that stakeholders allege may be unfair.

For residents and travelers in Thailand, these platforms are essential for daily transport and dining. While these discussions are currently focused on the business-to-platform relationship, any regulatory changes resulting from these findings could eventually influence service availability, pricing structures, or the operational stability of the apps used daily. At this stage, the TCCT is still in the information-gathering phase. It remains to be confirmed what specific regulatory actions, if any, the commission will propose to address these grievances or how such measures might impact the end-user experience.
