Thailand Proposes Raising Age Limit for State Enterprise Executives
The State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO) is drafting a proposal to increase the age limit for CEOs and board members of state enterprises to adapt to Thailand's aging society.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, the State Enterprise Policy Office (SEPO) is preparing to submit a proposal to the Cabinet to extend the mandatory retirement age for CEOs and board members of state-owned enterprises. Director-General Tibdee Wattanakul stated that this initiative is designed to address the challenges posed by Thailand’s transition into an aging society.
For residents and expatriates, this policy shift may influence the long-term management and operational continuity of major state-run entities, which oversee critical infrastructure, utilities, and public services. While the proposal is currently being drafted for public hearing, the SEPO aims to present the final version to the Cabinet within this year, with the goal of implementing the changes by 2027.
It remains to be confirmed whether the proposal will be approved by the Cabinet in its current form or if specific age caps will be adjusted during the public consultation process. As the draft moves through the legislative pipeline, stakeholders are waiting to see how these leadership extensions might impact the efficiency and modernization of state enterprises in the coming years.
