According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on September 2, 2026, a 14-year-old novice monk from Laos was found by villagers in a cemetery in Khamcha-i District, Mukdahan Province. The novice, who resides at a temple in Kuchinarai District, Kalasin Province, stated that his abbot had abandoned him there as a disciplinary measure for allegedly bullying other novices. The abbot reportedly ordered the boy to walk the 56-kilometer distance back to their temple alone.
