Transport Ministry Proposes Extension for Airport Rail Link Operations

On September 1, 2026, Thailand’s Minister of Transport, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, addressed concerns regarding the upcoming expiration of the Airport Rail Link (ARL) operating contract, scheduled for September 30, 2026. Speaking at Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai Campus, the Minister stated that the Ministry is preparing to negotiate with the private operator to extend the contract by one to three months.

This proposal aims to ensure continuity of service and prevent potential disruptions for commuters and travelers who rely on the rail link. Minister Phiphat clarified that while the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has already handed over the necessary areas to the private sector, the broader strategic decisions regarding the project fall under the jurisdiction of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) Policy Committee.
