Thai Ministry of Transport Proposes 30 Billion Baht Energy Transition Package
The Ministry of Transport has requested 30 billion baht from a 200 billion baht loan fund to subsidize fuel costs and accelerate the adoption of electric public vehicles.
On August 31, 2026, Deputy Minister of Transport Siriphong Angkasakulkiat announced that the Ministry has submitted two projects to the loan expenditure screening committee, seeking a total of 30 billion baht from the government's 200 billion baht emergency loan fund for energy transition.
According to Khaosod Online, the first project, valued at approximately 6 billion baht, is the 'DLT Ready Support Phase 2.' This initiative aims to subsidize fuel costs for transport operators to prevent fare hikes for the public amid volatile energy prices. The Ministry noted that the first phase of this support has already seen an 80% budget disbursement.
The second, larger portion of the funding is designated for the transition of seven categories of public transport vehicles to electric, hybrid, or biodiesel-compatible models.
For residents and travelers, these measures are intended to stabilize public transport fares and modernize the fleet. However, the proposal is currently under review by the screening committee. It remains to be confirmed when the funding will be officially approved, how the transition timeline for public vehicles will be structured, and whether these subsidies will effectively prevent fare increases in the long term.
