Authorities Raid Illegal Chinese-Owned Nightclub in Huai Khwang
A joint operation led by the Ministry of Interior resulted in the raid of '577 CLUB' in Bangkok, uncovering unlicensed operations, drug use, and alleged police corruption.
On August 29, 2026, a task force led by Deputy Interior Ministers Polpee Suwanchawi and Worasit Liangprasert, alongside the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA) S.W.A.T. team, conducted a raid on the '577 CLUB' in the Huai Khwang district of Bangkok. According to Khaosod Online, the operation, dubbed 'Lion Defeats Dark Dragon,' was launched following reports that the venue was operating without a license and remaining open until dawn.
During the inspection, authorities found 132 patrons, consisting of 65 Thai nationals and 67 Chinese nationals. Drug testing revealed that three individuals had substances in their systems. Additionally, officials discovered evidence of illegal drug use and the presence of electronic cigarettes within the premises. A notable finding during the investigation was the appearance of an individual identified as 'Mr. J' in the club's records as a 'ghost shareholder,' who allegedly claimed to be a police officer responsible for facilitating the club's operations.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to crack down on unlicensed nightlife venues and potential illicit activities involving foreign capital. While the raid confirms the immediate closure of the venue, the extent of the alleged police involvement and the full scope of the club's illicit network remain under investigation.
