Prime Minister Addresses CP Group’s Request to Terminate High-Speed Rail Contract

According to a report by Thai Post on August 28, 2026, the Prime Minister of Thailand has addressed the recent request by the CP Group to terminate its contract for the high-speed rail project linking three major airports. The Prime Minister emphasized that such a request is complex, noting that there is no precedent for a private entity to unilaterally abandon a state project of this nature.
Government officials have warned that if the private partner abandons the project, they may face being blacklisted from future government contracts. Furthermore, under the Prime Minister's Office regulations, the company would likely be held responsible for covering the financial difference resulting from the contract termination. The Prime Minister has scheduled a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) for the following week to discuss the situation in detail.
