Thailand Enhances Power Grid Stability for Renewable Energy Transition
The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is implementing 'Grid Modernization' to maintain power stability as the nation shifts toward a 51% clean energy target by 2037.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is actively upgrading the national power grid to ensure consistent electricity supply. As Thailand moves forward with its Power Development Plan (PDP 2024-2037), which aims for clean energy to account for 51% of the power mix by 2037, the country faces the challenge of managing the inherent volatility of solar and wind power.
To address this, EGAT is deploying 'Grid Modernization' strategies, with a primary focus on large-scale Energy Storage Systems (ESS). These systems function similarly to massive power banks, storing energy during peak production periods to ensure that electricity remains available even during weather fluctuations or high demand.
For residents and travelers, this initiative is significant as it aims to prevent power outages during extreme weather or periods of high consumption, such as when air conditioning usage spikes.
