GISTDA Issues Flood Warning for Sukhothai and Phitsanulok Provinces
Thailand's space agency has identified over 3,900 square kilometers at high risk of flooding, urging residents and travelers to monitor the situation closely.
On August 21, 2026, the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) issued a significant flood alert for northern Thailand. Using satellite imagery and geospatial analysis via the 'Check Nam' application, the agency identified a high-risk zone (marked in red) spanning more than 3,900 square kilometers across Sukhothai and Phitsanulok provinces, as well as adjacent areas.
In Sukhothai, the high-risk areas are concentrated in the central and lower districts, specifically Sawankhalok, Si Samrong, Mueang Sukhothai, Kong Krailat, and parts of Si Satchanalai. In Phitsanulok, the risk extends across the central and western regions, including Phrom Phiram, Bang Rakam, Mueang Phitsanulok, and parts of Wat Bot, as floodwaters move from Sukhothai.
For residents and travelers, this alert signifies a potential disruption to local infrastructure and travel routes in these provinces. GISTDA advises the public to monitor the situation 24 hours a day through official channels. While the satellite data indicates a high probability of flooding, the exact impact on specific roads or tourist sites remains to be confirmed by local authorities.
