Thailand Targets Global Wellness Market with Agricultural Innovation
The Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO) has unveiled a four-point plan to leverage Thai agricultural products for the growing global wellness and longevity sector.
According to Khaosod Online, the Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO) under the Ministry of Commerce has announced a strategic initiative to integrate Thai agricultural goods into the global wellness and longevity market. TPSO Director Nantapong Jiralertpong stated that the global medical and wellness sector is projected to reach a valuation of $6.7 trillion by 2040, representing a significant increase over the past 15 years.
The proposed plan focuses on applying scientific research to extract active compounds from native Thai plants, aiming to develop medical-grade innovations. This shift addresses a growing consumer trend where individuals prioritize preventative health and scientifically-backed products over traditional treatments. Thailand is well-positioned for this transition, as the country’s retail market for herbal products reached $1,357.5 million in 2025, ranking 11th globally.
For residents and travelers, this development suggests a potential increase in the availability of high-quality, science-based wellness products and health-focused services within Thailand. As the lines between food, beauty, and medical technology continue to blur, consumers may see more innovative health offerings in the local market. However, it remains to be confirmed how these four specific strategic plans will be implemented and which specific agricultural products will be prioritized for medical-grade development.
