Laos Deports 42 Thai Nationals Following Online Gambling Crackdown
Lao authorities have shut down five online gambling platforms and repatriated 42 Thai nationals who were employed as administrators.
On August 18, 2026, Lao authorities dismantled five online gambling operations, including platforms identified as Galaxy, Hotspin, CoinX, KTV, and Eufa888. Following the crackdown, 42 Thai nationals—who had been working as administrators for these sites—were deported back to Thailand. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the individuals were received by Nong Khai immigration officials at the First Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge.
Upon their return, the group underwent screening by multidisciplinary teams. Authorities confirmed that none of the individuals were victims of human trafficking, nor were any subject to outstanding arrest warrants. Each person was processed and issued fines in accordance with relevant ministerial regulations. Investigations revealed that the workers had been earning an average monthly salary of 15,000 to 18,000 baht while operating the illegal sites.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights the ongoing regional efforts to curb illicit digital activities. While the immediate legal processing of these individuals has concluded, it remains to be confirmed whether further investigations will target the owners or the broader infrastructure of these specific gambling platforms.
