Online Shopping Disappointment: Shein Customer Receives Printed Dress Instead of Sequins
A 24-year-old woman in the U.S. was shocked to find that a dress she ordered from Shein featured a flat print of sequins rather than actual embellishments.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, Kate Langley, a 24-year-old resident of Mobile, Alabama, experienced a significant discrepancy between an online product listing and the item she received. Seeking a dress for her birthday celebration, Langley purchased a halter-style dress from the online retailer Shein for $17.95 (approximately 600 Thai Baht). The product images on the website depicted a garment covered in shimmering sequins, which she believed would be ideal for a party.
Upon receiving the package on July 25, Langley discovered that the dress contained no actual sequins. Instead, the fabric featured a flat, two-dimensional print designed to mimic the appearance of sequins. Langley described the item as looking like a screenshot of a dress printed onto plain fabric.
For residents and travelers who frequently use international e-commerce platforms, this incident serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with online shopping, where product photography may not accurately represent the physical texture or quality of the materials. While this case highlights a specific customer experience, it remains to be confirmed how the retailer will address this particular complaint or if there are broader issues regarding the accuracy of their product descriptions. Consumers are encouraged to review customer feedback and exercise caution when purchasing items based solely on promotional imagery.
