On August 15, 2026, a man appearing to be intoxicated was captured on video engaging in disrespectful behavior at the Ya Mo monument located in front of Wat Bamrung Tham, Nakhon Ratchasima. According to a report by Khaosod Online, the individual arrived on a bicycle, removed traditional offerings including golden sashes and flower garlands, and consumed a bottle of red soda intended for the shrine.
The suspect reportedly attempted to move the main statue but failed due to its weight. He subsequently took a small brass statue of Ya Bunluea, placed it in his bicycle basket, and departed the scene. The incident has sparked significant outrage among local residents, who view the act as a profound desecration of a site considered a sacred landmark of the city.
