Mae Sa Waterfall Remains Closed Following Flash Floods in Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai authorities have extended the closure of Mae Sa Waterfall and are upgrading safety protocols at tourist sites in Mae Rim following recent flash flood incidents.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on August 16, 2026, Chiang Mai provincial officials have inspected key tourist attractions in the Mae Rim district, including Mae Sa Waterfall and Tat Mok Waterfall, following recent flash flood events. Deputy Governor Sivakorn Buapong, acting on behalf of Governor Rattapol Naradisorn, led the inspection to assess the situation and oversee emergency preparedness.
As a result of the ongoing safety concerns during the rainy season, Mae Sa Waterfall remains temporarily closed to the public. Authorities have instructed the Doi Suthep-Pui National Park and relevant agencies to prioritize visitor safety by continuously monitoring weather conditions and water levels. Officials are also tasked with ensuring that warning systems, rescue equipment, and emergency personnel are fully prepared to respond to any sudden increases in water volume or potential emergencies.
For travelers and residents, this means access to Mae Sa Waterfall is currently restricted. While the closure is intended to prevent accidents during the monsoon period, the exact date for the site's reopening has not been confirmed.
