A popular tourist destination in Rajasthan, India, known as the 'Marble Switzerland,' has been revealed to be a hazardous marble waste dump site posing significant respiratory risks.
According to a report by Khaosod Online on August 15, 2026, the Kishangarh Marble Dump Yard in Rajasthan, India, has gained viral fame as the 'Switzerland of India' due to its snow-like white landscape and turquoise pools. While the site has become a hotspot for wedding photography, music videos, and Bollywood film shoots, environmental experts have issued urgent warnings regarding its true nature.
The site is actually one of Asia’s largest marble waste disposal areas, where approximately 12,000 factories dump 5,500 tons of marble dust and slurry daily. Experts warn that the dust contains crystalline silica, which can lead to silicosis—a permanent lung condition caused by long-term inhalation. Furthermore, research indicates the presence of carcinogenic asbestos fibers within the dust.
Despite these findings, the area lacks basic safety measures or warning signage, leaving an estimated 200,000 people, including workers, local residents, and tourists, potentially exposed to hazardous particles without respiratory protection. For travelers, this highlights the importance of researching the environmental safety of 'viral' tourist spots.
