ISTAF Fines Thai Sepak Takraw Team Following World Cup Walkout

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the International Sepak Takraw Federation (ISTAF) has issued financial penalties against five Thai athletes and three officials. The disciplinary action follows an incident on May 24, during the team event final of the Sepak Takraw World Cup held in Malaysia, where the Thai team chose to discontinue the match.

The ISTAF disciplinary committee ruled that all eight individuals were at fault. The three primary athletes involved—Phutawan Sopa, Wichan Temkort, and Jakkrit Thinbangbon—have each been fined 6,000 USD. Other team members, including Sittipong Khamchan, also face penalties. In total, the fines amount to approximately 2 million baht. Notably, the federation has opted not to issue any competitive bans against the players or staff involved.
