Thai Officials Investigate Foreign Land Ownership on Koh Phangan
Deputy Interior Ministers have launched an investigation into 104 companies on Koh Phangan suspected of using foreign nominees to hold land.
On August 14, 2026, Deputy Interior Ministers Phonphir Suwannachawi and Worasit Liangprasit visited Koh Phangan, Surat Thani province, to address concerns regarding foreign land ownership through nominee structures. According to Khaosod Online, officials identified 104 companies where foreign nationals hold more than 50% of shares, collectively controlling 124 land plots.
During the visit, the ministers met with local authorities, including the Koh Phangan District Chief and representatives from the Department of Provincial Administration and the Department of Business Development. The investigation was prompted by a lack of progress in addressing illegal nominee activities and unauthorized foreign labor on the island. During the operation, authorities noted that one target location had been vacated prior to their arrival.
