Criticism Mounts Over Ombudsman’s Online Complaint System Failures

The Office of the Ombudsman of Thailand is facing public backlash due to persistent technical failures in its online complaint submission portal.

On August 12, 2026, Thai Post reported that the Office of the Ombudsman of Thailand has come under fire for the recurring instability of its digital infrastructure. Virangrong Thapparangsi, President of the University Network for National Reform, publicly criticized the agency via social media, stating that the online complaint system has been effectively non-functional.

According to the report, Thapparangsi attempted to submit a complaint repeatedly from the morning until the afternoon, only to be met with consistent system errors. This incident has sparked a broader debate regarding the efficacy of the Ombudsman’s office, with critics questioning the utility of an agency that struggles to maintain basic digital accessibility for the public.

For residents and expatriates, this situation highlights potential difficulties in utilizing official government channels for grievances or administrative assistance. If digital portals remain unreliable, individuals may face significant delays in seeking redress for issues involving state agencies. It remains to be confirmed whether the Office of the Ombudsman will issue a formal response regarding these technical outages or if there are plans to upgrade the infrastructure to prevent future downtime. As of now, the agency has not provided a public explanation for the persistent system failures.
