Thailand’s Jewelry Exports Surge as Industry Shifts Toward Original Design

Thailand’s jewelry and ornament exports reached over $8.25 billion in the first half of 2026, with the Ministry of Commerce now pushing for a transition from OEM to ODM manufacturing.

According to a report by Prachachat Business, Thailand’s jewelry and ornament sector has demonstrated strong performance, recording exports totaling $8,253.19 million during the first half of 2026. Building on this momentum, the Ministry of Commerce is actively encouraging local manufacturers to evolve from Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) to Original Design Manufacturing (ODM). This strategic shift aims to increase the global competitiveness of Thai products by emphasizing unique design and brand identity rather than simple contract manufacturing.

To support this transition, the Ministry of Commerce has scheduled the 74th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, which is set to take place from September 8 to 12, 2026. The event is intended to serve as a platform for showcasing Thai craftsmanship and design capabilities to the international market.

For residents and travelers, this shift suggests a potential increase in the availability of high-quality, locally branded jewelry pieces that reflect Thai design innovation. While the export figures highlight a robust economic sector, the long-term success of the transition to ODM remains to be confirmed as manufacturers adapt to these new design-focused business models. Visitors interested in the industry may find the upcoming fair a significant opportunity to observe the latest trends in Thai jewelry design.
