Jasmine Prices Surge Ahead of Mother’s Day in Thailand
Thailand's Department of Internal Trade is monitoring flower markets as jasmine prices reach up to 1,000 baht per liter due to seasonal demand and low supply.
As Thailand approaches Mother’s Day, the Department of Internal Trade (DIT) has launched inspections at major flower hubs, including Pak Khlong Talat 2 and Yodpiman Market, to monitor the rising cost of jasmine. According to Khaosod Online, the price of fresh jasmine has climbed to between 750 and 1,000 baht per liter, depending on quality and freshness. Retailers are currently selling top-grade jasmine at approximately 1,000 baht per liter, while wholesale prices hover around 850 baht per liter. Jasmine garlands are also seeing price increases, currently ranging from 200 to 300 baht each.
Jirawut Suwannajat, Deputy Director-General of the DIT, stated on August 11, 2026, that the price hike is driven by a combination of high seasonal demand and a lower-than-usual supply of jasmine entering the market. For residents and travelers, this means that purchasing floral tributes for Mother’s Day will be significantly more expensive this year. The DIT has issued a stern warning to vendors, mandating that all prices must be clearly displayed. Officials have cautioned that any merchants found exploiting the situation through unfair pricing will face legal action. While the government is actively monitoring the situation to ensure fair trade, consumers are advised to compare prices across different vendors before making a purchase to avoid overpaying.
