Thailand Proposes Using Loan Decree Funds to Electrify Public Buses

According to a report by Thai Post on August 11, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has announced plans to accelerate the transition of Thailand’s public bus fleet from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles (EVs). The Ministry of Transport is currently preparing a proposal to secure 200 billion baht in funding, which would be sourced from a specific loan decree.

Minister Phiphat indicated that he has already held preliminary discussions regarding this initiative with relevant officials. The Ministry aims to finalize and submit the formal proposal for cabinet consideration before the end of August 2026.
