Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy Proposes Mandatory MFA for Government Systems

According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) is preparing to submit a proposal to the Cabinet to overhaul cybersecurity protocols for state and private digital infrastructure. Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Chai-Chonchok Chidchob, indicated that the initiative follows a resolution from the National Cyber Security Committee (NCSC).

The proposal aims to enforce a mandatory reset of login systems across 300 government departments, covering approximately 30,000 operational systems. Additionally, the mandate is expected to extend to 35,000 private sector systems. A core component of this initiative is the implementation of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to bolster identity verification security. To support this transition, the government is planning to procure new IT infrastructure dedicated to identity management.
