Pha Muang Task Force Seizes Nearly 2 Million Methamphetamine Pills in Chiang Rai
Thai military forces intercepted a drug smuggling caravan near the northern border, resulting in the seizure of over 1.9 million methamphetamine pills.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Pha Muang Task Force engaged in a clash with a group of 10–15 suspected drug smugglers early on August 8, 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 AM near the Wiang Kaeo 3 crossing in the Si Don Mun sub-district of Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai province.
Following the confrontation, authorities recovered 1,928,000 methamphetamine pills that the group had been transporting through natural forest trails. Colonel Suphan Roiphut, representing the Thap Chao Tak Task Force, confirmed the seizure during an inspection later that day.
For residents and travelers in the Chiang Rai border region, this incident highlights ongoing security operations aimed at curbing illicit cross-border activities.
