Songkhla Dredging Project Launched to Mitigate Flood Risks
Deputy Transport Minister Sanphet Boonyamanee has inspected dredging operations at U-Taphao Canal in Songkhla to improve drainage and flood preparedness.
On August 8, 2026, Deputy Minister of Transport Sanphet Boonyamanee visited Songkhla province to oversee progress on the U-Taphao Canal dredging project. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the initiative aims to remove sediment and obstructions from the canal to enhance water drainage efficiency ahead of the rainy season.
This project is part of a broader government effort to protect residential areas and local economic zones from potential flooding. By clearing the waterway, authorities intend to reduce the risk of overflow while simultaneously improving safety for water-based transportation in the region. Officials from the Marine Department, including the Director of the 4th Regional Marine Office, briefed the Minister on current site conditions and operational plans.

While the current dredging is underway, the government has also announced plans for three additional water management and navigation projects scheduled for 2027, with a total budget exceeding 85 million baht.
