Thailand Issues Heavy Rain and Strong Wind Warning for August 8–9
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall and rough seas across Thailand, effective through August 9, 2026.
On August 8, 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) released its 9th announcement regarding severe weather conditions affecting the country. Due to a monsoon trough passing over the upper North and Northeast regions, combined with a strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, many areas are experiencing increased rainfall.
According to the TMD, the North, Northeast, and East regions are expected to see heavy to very heavy rain. Central Thailand, including Bangkok and its vicinity, as well as the South, will also face heavy rainfall. Residents and travelers in these areas are advised to remain cautious of potential flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes.
Marine conditions are also affected, with waves in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand reaching heights of 2 to 3 meters, and exceeding 3 meters in areas with thunderstorms. The TMD has advised mariners to exercise extreme caution and avoid sailing in stormy areas. Specifically, small boats in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are advised to remain ashore through August 9, 2026.
While the current warning covers the period through August 9, residents should monitor local updates for any extensions or changes to these weather patterns as the situation evolves.
