Tragic Drowning Incident at Bang Phra Pier, Chonburi
A 16-year-old student drowned after being swept away by currents while swimming at Bang Phra Pier in Chonburi province.
On August 7, 2026, a tragic drowning occurred at the Bang Phra Pier in the Si Racha district of Chonburi. According to reports from Khaosod Online, a group of four students went to the pier to swim and jumped into the water from the center of the structure. During the activity, strong currents swept one of the students away. His companions attempted to assist him but were unable to reach him due to the conditions and the force of the waves.
Local residents were alerted by the other students and contacted the Sawang Pratheep Si Racha rescue unit. Divers arrived at the scene and conducted a search, recovering the body of the 16-year-old student from the seabed after approximately 20 minutes. The victim had been submerged for over an hour.
For residents and visitors, this incident serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictable nature of coastal waters near piers and breakwaters, where currents can change rapidly.
