Central Retail Acquires MaxValu, Rebranding 30 Locations to Tops

Central Retail Corporation has finalized the acquisition of all 30 MaxValu supermarket branches in Thailand, with plans to transition them into the Tops brand.

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, Central Retail Corporation (CRC) has officially announced the completion of its acquisition of Aeon (Thailand) Co., Ltd. The deal involves the purchase of all 30 MaxValu supermarket locations currently operating in the country.

Central Food Retail (CFR), a wholly-owned subsidiary of CRC, has signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares of the entity operating the MaxValu brand. Following this acquisition, the company intends to rebrand all 30 existing locations to operate under the Tops banner.

For residents and travelers, this transition signifies a major shift in the local retail landscape. MaxValu has long been a staple for convenience-oriented grocery shopping in various neighborhoods. As these stores convert to Tops, customers can expect changes in product assortments, store layouts, and potentially pricing structures to align with the Tops retail model.

While the acquisition is confirmed, several details remain to be clarified. The timeline for the physical rebranding of each individual store has not been publicly disclosed, nor has the company specified how the transition will affect current staff or existing loyalty program memberships associated with the former MaxValu brand. Residents should monitor local store signage for updates regarding specific closure or renovation dates as the integration process begins.
