Authorities in Nakhon Phanom intercepted a pickup truck carrying 100 million baht worth of heroin and crystal methamphetamine, resulting in the arrest of two men.
On August 7, 2026, officials in Nakhon Phanom province announced the successful interception of a significant drug shipment. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, police and provincial authorities stopped a suspicious Mitsubishi pickup truck at a checkpoint in front of the Na Kae Police Station at approximately 2:00 a.m.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 280 bars of heroin and 94 blocks of crystal methamphetamine, with an estimated street value exceeding 100 million baht. Two men, both of whom had recently been released from prison, were taken into custody. During initial questioning, the suspects reportedly confessed to being hired for 100,000 baht to transport the narcotics, claiming the money was intended for medical expenses.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights ongoing efforts by Thai law enforcement to disrupt drug trafficking routes originating from border areas. While the immediate threat has been neutralized, the investigation remains active as authorities work to identify the broader network behind this shipment. It remains to be confirmed whether these individuals are linked to larger organized crime syndicates or if further arrests will follow as the investigation into the supply chain continues.
