Thai Ministry of Commerce Launches Egg Subsidy Program Amid Price Hikes
The Department of Internal Trade is releasing 3.42 million eggs at discounted prices nationwide following a rise in farm-gate costs.
According to a report by Prachachat Business on August 7, 2026, the price of mixed-grade chicken eggs at the farm level has increased by 0.20 baht, reaching 4 baht per egg. The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) attributes this rise to a 3% decline in production levels for August compared to normal volumes.
Despite the price adjustment, the DIT has officially stated that there is no shortage of eggs in the market. To mitigate the impact on consumers, the government is launching the "Thai Eggs Help Thais" initiative. From August 13 to August 31, 2026, the ministry will distribute 3.42 million eggs across the country, sold at prices 10% lower than the current market rate.
For residents and travelers, this initiative aims to stabilize food costs during the temporary supply dip. While the government has assured the public that supply remains sufficient, the effectiveness of this price-capping measure in curbing broader inflationary pressure on food remains to be seen. Consumers are encouraged to look for designated "Thai Eggs Help Thais" points of sale to access the discounted stock. Further updates regarding supply levels beyond the end of August have not yet been provided by the ministry.
