Ministry of Commerce Launches Discounted Egg Initiative to Combat Rising Prices
To address rising egg prices, the Thai Department of Internal Trade is launching a nationwide discount program offering eggs at 10% below market rates from August 13 to 31, 2026.
According to Khaosod Online, the Thai Department of Internal Trade (DIT) has announced a new initiative titled 'Thai Eggs Help Thais' to mitigate the impact of rising egg costs on consumers. This program follows a recent price adjustment by the Layer Chicken Farmer Cooperative Network, which increased the farm-gate price of mixed eggs from 3.80 baht to 4.00 baht per egg, effective August 7, 2026.
To provide relief, the DIT will distribute 3.42 million eggs at prices approximately 10% lower than current market rates. The initiative will run from August 13 to August 31, 2026. In Bangkok, these eggs will be available through 'Blue Flag' community activities, while provincial commercial offices will manage distribution across all 76 provinces.
For residents and travelers, this initiative serves as a temporary measure to stabilize household expenses during a period of reduced production. While the DIT maintains that there is no shortage of eggs in the market, the price hike reflects current supply fluctuations. It remains to be confirmed whether these distribution points will be sufficient to meet demand in all areas or if further price adjustments will be necessary once the program concludes at the end of August.
