New Interest Rate Relief Program Announced for Thai Educators
The Office of the Welfare Promotion Commission for Teachers and Educational Personnel (OTEP) and the Government Savings Bank have launched a debt relief initiative for specific teacher loan groups.
According to a report by Khaosod Online on August 7, 2026, the Office of the Welfare Promotion Commission for Teachers and Educational Personnel (OTEP) has partnered with the Government Savings Bank to introduce a debt relief program titled 'GSB Steps Forward with Teachers… Helping Educators Toward Financial Freedom.'
This initiative is specifically designed for members of the Funeral Aid Association for Teachers and Educational Personnel (Ch.P.K.) and the Funeral Aid Association for Teachers and Educational Personnel in the event of a spouse's death (Ch.P.S.). The program offers a 4% annual interest rate reduction on existing loans, regardless of the current status of the debt. This reduced rate will remain in effect until December 2026. Starting in January 2027, the interest rate will transition to either MLR-2.00% or MRR-2.00% per annum, depending on the terms of the original loan agreement.
To qualify, applicants must be active members of the Ch.P.K. or Ch.P.S. associations and must not currently be participating in other specific government teacher debt reduction schemes. While this program provides significant financial relief for educators, residents and interested parties should note that specific registration deadlines and procedural details are currently being managed through official OTEP channels. Further confirmation regarding individual eligibility and the exact application window should be verified directly through the Government Savings Bank or OTEP offices.
