Port Authority of Thailand Supports Youth Snooker as Legal Reform Discussions Continue
The Port Authority of Thailand has donated 1 million baht to the Billiard Sports Association of Thailand, while officials advocate for removing snooker from the 1935 Gambling Act.
On August 6, 2026, the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) announced a 1 million baht sponsorship for the Billiard Sports Association of Thailand. Acting Director Ratthakorn Khieophaisan presented the funds at the PAT headquarters in Khlong Toei, marking the second consecutive year of support for the sport. The event was attended by Association President Sunthorn Jarumon and world champion female snooker player Pannachaya Channoi, alongside youth athletes.
During the ceremony, Ratthakorn expressed support for ongoing efforts to remove snooker from the Gambling Act B.E. 2478 (1935). He suggested that reclassifying the sport would allow it to operate more transparently and receive broader institutional backing. For residents and visitors, this development signals a potential shift in how snooker is regulated in Thailand, moving away from its historical association with gambling toward a status as a professional sport.
While the financial support for youth development is confirmed, the legislative process regarding the Gambling Act remains ongoing.
