Thailand’s 'Bond Aom Plus' Sees Massive Investor Demand
The Thai Ministry of Finance reports that the initial 4 billion baht 'Bond Aom Plus' offering was oversubscribed by eight times, with a new round planned for September.
According to Khaosod Online, the Thai Ministry of Finance has announced the successful completion of its first 'Bond Aom Plus' offering. The 4 billion baht issuance saw overwhelming interest, with total subscription requests reaching 16.5 billion baht—an oversubscription of eight times the available amount. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas stated that 22,703 individual investors successfully secured bonds through the program.
The government launched this initiative to provide retail investors with broader access to low-risk government assets. The bonds are designed to offer competitive returns and enhanced liquidity, allowing for trading in the secondary market. Of the successful applicants, 1,590 utilized the 'Wallet Sor Bor Mor' platform, while 21,113 accessed the bonds via 'Bond Connect.'
For residents and expatriates, this development highlights a growing trend in accessible digital financial instruments within Thailand. While the initial round has concluded, the Ministry of Finance has confirmed that a second round of subscriptions is scheduled for September. Potential investors should monitor official government channels for specific dates and eligibility requirements for the upcoming release. As this is a financial product, individuals should conduct their own research or consult with financial professionals regarding the suitability of government bonds for their personal portfolios.
