According to a report by Khaosod Online, a bookstore named Booklegger in Eureka, California, received an unexpected package on Monday, August 3, 2026. Inside, the shop owner, Jennifer McFadden, discovered a book that had been stolen from the store over 40 years ago. Along with the book, the sender included a handwritten letter of apology and 100 USD (approximately 3,300 THB) as restitution.
In the letter, the sender explained that during his time as a student, he struggled with substance and alcohol abuse, which led him to steal the book for money. He expressed that the act had weighed on his conscience for decades. McFadden shared the story on Facebook, noting that the staff was deeply moved by the gesture, emphasizing that acknowledging past mistakes, even after many years, requires significant courage.
