Thai Chamber of Commerce Forecasts 11.1 Billion Baht Spending for Mother’s Day

Thailand’s University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce projects Mother’s Day spending to reach a seven-year high of 11.1 billion baht, though growth remains modest.

According to a report by Khaosod Online, the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) has released its latest survey regarding consumer behavior for Mother’s Day 2026. Thanavath Phonvichai, President of the UTCC, estimates that spending will reach 11.139 billion baht, marking the highest figure in seven years. Despite this milestone, the growth rate compared to the previous year is a modest 0.7%, reflecting a cautious approach to spending among the public.

For residents and travelers, this data suggests that while the holiday atmosphere remains active, consumer sentiment is tempered by economic caution. The survey notes that the mid-week timing of the holiday, which does not connect to a weekend, may also influence spending patterns. Umakamon Sunthonsurati, Director of the Center for Economic and Business Forecasting, highlighted that 40.9% of respondents do not plan to purchase gifts, while others are split between online and offline shopping. Promotions, product quality, and affordability remain the primary drivers for those who are shopping. Popular gift choices include floral garlands, health products, vitamins, clothing, lottery tickets, cash, and gold.

While these projections provide a snapshot of current economic sentiment, the actual impact on retail sectors remains to be confirmed as the holiday approaches. Travelers should expect standard retail activity without significant disruptions.
