Former Local Administration Official Faces Corruption Charges
Former Department of Local Administration Director-General Theerut Suppawiboonpol has reported to police to face charges related to a local government recruitment exam scandal.
On August 6, 2026, Khaosod Online reported that Theerut Suppawiboonpol, the former Director-General of the Department of Local Administration (DLA), appeared at the Crime Suppression Division to acknowledge charges regarding alleged corruption in local government recruitment examinations.
According to Police Colonel Netiwit Thanasitnitikul, Superintendent of Sub-division 2 of the Crime Suppression Division, investigators are currently questioning the former official. This case involves a total of 13 suspects, categorized into two groups: 11 local government officials accused of tampering with answer sheets at a private company in Nonthaburi, and a second group consisting of two individuals, including Mr. Theerut and Assistant Professor Ruangdej.
For residents and expatriates, this investigation highlights ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to address integrity issues within public sector recruitment processes. While the case focuses on administrative misconduct, it underscores the government's scrutiny of local governance operations.
