Political Pressure Mounts Over NBTC Chair’s Continued Tenure

On August 6, 2026, Phakamon Nun-anan, a list MP from the People's Party and chair of the House Committee on Political Development, Mass Communications, and Public Participation, publicly criticized Dr. Sarana Boonbaichaiyapruck’s refusal to step down as Chairman of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).

According to Khaosod Online, Phakamon stated that the selection committee had previously determined Dr. Sarana lacks the necessary qualifications for the role. She noted that recent NBTC board meetings have collapsed three times due to disputes regarding his eligibility. Phakamon argued that Dr. Sarana should have relinquished the position immediately following the committee's findings and criticized his justification for remaining, which she described as evasive. She further called upon the Prime Minister to initiate the formal process to remove him from office, suggesting that the Prime Minister’s hesitation is now drawing public scrutiny.
