Calls for Restructuring of Thailand's NBTC

According to a report by Thai Post on August 6, 2026, Dr. Premsak has publicly called for a complete overhaul of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). He has formally suggested that Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul dissolve the current board, which consists of seven commissioners, and initiate a process to select new members.

Dr. Premsak argued that the nation has lost significant time due to the current leadership of the organization, suggesting that a fresh start is necessary to better serve the public interest. He characterized the current state of the NBTC as inefficient and implied that a restructuring is essential for progress.

For residents and travelers in Thailand, the NBTC plays a critical role in regulating telecommunications, internet services, and broadcasting standards. While this proposal is currently a political suggestion, any potential dissolution or restructuring of the commission could eventually impact the stability of telecommunications services, mobile network operations, or digital infrastructure policies.
