Heavy Rainfall and Rough Seas Forecast Across Thailand
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy rain in 35 provinces and high waves in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand for August 6, 2026.
On August 6, 2026, the Thai Meteorological Department reported that a monsoon trough passing through northern Thailand and Laos, combined with a strong southwest monsoon, is causing heavy to very heavy rainfall across the country. According to Khaosod Online, 35 provinces are currently under alert, with Bangkok expecting rain across 70% of its area.
For travelers and residents, this weather pattern poses risks of flash floods and forest runoff, particularly in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes. Maritime conditions are also hazardous; the upper Andaman Sea is experiencing waves between 2 and 4 meters, with heights exceeding 4 meters during thunderstorms. The upper Gulf of Thailand faces waves of 2 to 3 meters, potentially exceeding 3 meters in stormy conditions. Authorities have advised small boats in these regions to remain ashore and for all mariners to exercise extreme caution.
Additionally, Tropical Storm 'Kujira' is currently located in the upper South China Sea, west of the Philippines. While the storm is not expected to enter Thailand, those planning travel to the Philippines should monitor local weather reports. Residents and visitors should stay updated on local forecasts, as the intensity of rainfall and sea conditions can change rapidly. Official warnings regarding specific flood-prone zones remain in effect until further notice.
