Thai Government Dismisses 3,400 Officials Over Local Exam Fraud

According to a report by Thai Post on August 5, 2026, the Thai government has moved to dismiss 3,400 officials implicated in a widespread local government examination fraud scandal. The Local Government Official Examination Committee (LGEC) has finalized the list of those involved, leading to their removal from service.

Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the situation, stating that the matter is considered closed and emphasizing that he will not protect any individuals involved in the corruption. The decision follows an investigation into irregularities within the local administrative examination process.

For residents and expatriates, this development highlights ongoing efforts by the current administration to address systemic corruption within the civil service. While the government considers the case resolved, the People's Party (PChN) has expressed skepticism, questioning whether the investigation was sufficient by limiting accountability primarily to the department head level.
