Authorities Seize 30 Million Baht in Illegal E-Cigarettes in Songkhla
Songkhla officials intercepted a major smuggling operation, seizing over 205,000 e-cigarettes destined for Bangkok.
On August 5, 2026, Songkhla Governor Ratsat Chit-chu announced the successful interception of a large-scale e-cigarette smuggling operation in the Sadao district. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, provincial administrative officers acted on intelligence regarding illegal goods being transported from the border area.
On the evening of August 4, authorities surrounded a parking area along Kanjanavanich Road in Tambon Phang La, where three pickup trucks were attempting to transfer a massive shipment of e-cigarettes onto a ten-wheel truck bound for Bangkok. Officials seized 205,704 individual e-cigarette units, with an estimated market value of 30 million baht. While some suspects managed to flee the scene, two individuals were apprehended and are currently in custody.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights the ongoing strict enforcement of Thailand’s anti-vaping laws. E-cigarettes remain illegal in the country, and possession or distribution can lead to significant legal consequences. While the immediate shipment has been neutralized, authorities are currently working to expand the investigation to identify and dismantle the broader transnational network involved. It remains to be confirmed how many additional suspects were involved in the escape and the full extent of the distribution network’s reach into the capital.
