What this page covers

The e-Visa portal groups employment and business purposes together. The correct route depends on the real activity: employment, business meetings, investment, an internship, teaching or a Board of Investment (BOI) related role are not interchangeable.

Official classification

  • Non-Immigrant B for employment, teaching, internships and business purposes
  • Non-Immigrant IB for BOI-related investment or work where the applicable authority supports the application
  • Other official non-immigrant classifications may apply to a particular investment or government-linked activity

Prepare the application carefully

  • Use the official Thai e-Visa portal to select the live visa category for the passport/travel-document country and current application location.
  • Applicants must be outside Thailand when applying through the e-Visa process. Do not start from an assumption that a visa is available solely because a category appears in a general list.
  • Create the e-Visa account, complete the form accurately, upload the documents requested for that exact route, pay the applicable fee and keep the approval confirmation sent by email.
  • A passport, photograph and the mission’s e-Visa application requirements
  • An employer, host company or business invitation explaining the applicant’s role, activity and dates
  • Corporate, registration, tax, BOI or approval documents where the selected route requires them
  • Evidence matching the real activity; the e-Visa form, supporting letter and travel purpose must not conflict

Visa, entry and stay are separate decisions

A visa is an entry or stay permission category, not a general right to work. Separate labour, work-permit, BOI and Immigration steps may apply after visa issuance or arrival.

Activity boundary

Do not use a visitor, DTV or tourist route for Thai employment or Thai-client freelance activity. Confirm the work authorization pathway with the employer and the responsible Thai authorities before starting work.

Known developments and changes to watch

No category-specific rule change was found in the official sources reviewed for this page on 14 July 2026. Thailand’s Visa Policy Review Committee met on 30 June 2026 and was asked to develop future proposals, but that meeting did not itself create a new visa rule. Only an official notice with an effective date changes the applicable requirements.
