Thailand transit visas

A practical guide to official Thai transit e-Visa routes for transit, sport participation and transport-crew purposes.

What this page covers

The e-Visa portal presents transit routes for travellers transiting through Thailand, sport activities and transport crew. A transit purpose must be supported by the actual onward journey, event or operational assignment.

  • TS for transit
  • S for sport activities
  • C for crew or persons operating a conveyance arriving at a Thai port, station or area

Prepare the application carefully

  • Use the official Thai e-Visa portal to select the live visa category for the passport/travel-document country and current application location.
  • Applicants must be outside Thailand when applying through the e-Visa process. Do not start from an assumption that a visa is available solely because a category appears in a general list.
  • Create the e-Visa account, complete the form accurately, upload the documents requested for that exact route, pay the applicable fee and keep the approval confirmation sent by email.
  • A passport or travel document and photograph
  • Confirmed onward travel and, where relevant, evidence of permission to enter the next destination
  • An event invitation for sport participation or an employer/operational letter for crew duties
  • Financial and other supporting evidence requested by the responsible mission

Visa, entry and stay are separate decisions

The Ministry’s general information historically describes short transit permission. The current e-Visa checklist and the Immigration decision on arrival are the sources to use for the applicant’s live duration and entry conditions.

Activity boundary

Transit, sport and crew purposes are narrow. A longer stay, ordinary work, study or family residence requires a route that matches the real purpose.

Known developments and changes to watch

No category-specific rule change was found in the official sources reviewed for this page on 14 July 2026. Thailand’s Visa Policy Review Committee met on 30 June 2026 and was asked to develop future proposals, but that meeting did not itself create a new visa rule. Only an official notice with an effective date changes the applicable requirements.
