Thailand tourist visas

A source-backed guide to Thailand tourist e-Visas, including tourism, leisure, MICE and short medical-treatment routes shown by the official e-Visa portal.

What this page covers

Use this route only for a genuine temporary visitor purpose. The e-Visa portal first asks for passport or travel-document country and planned stay, so whether a tourist visa is needed depends on the live nationality and travel facts entered there.

Official classification

  • TR for tourism and leisure
  • TR routes associated with MICE or approved learning/training activities where the portal lists them
  • MT for medical treatment of less than 60 days where the portal lists that route
  • A family visit of less than 60 days may be listed as a tourist route by the applying mission

Prepare the application carefully

  • Use the official Thai e-Visa portal to select the live visa category for the passport/travel-document country and current application location.
  • Applicants must be outside Thailand when applying through the e-Visa process. Do not start from an assumption that a visa is available solely because a category appears in a general list.
  • Create the e-Visa account, complete the form accurately, upload the documents requested for that exact route, pay the applicable fee and keep the approval confirmation sent by email.
  • A valid passport or travel document and a recent compliant photograph
  • Travel, accommodation and financial evidence when requested by the applying mission
  • Evidence that supports the selected purpose, such as a MICE invitation, course confirmation or medical appointment where applicable
  • Proof of the applicant’s current location outside Thailand when the mission requests it

Visa, entry and stay are separate decisions

Visa validity, entries and permission to stay are not interchangeable. The e-Visa portal and the responsible Thai mission show the live option for the applicant; a Thai Immigration officer determines admission and permitted stay at entry.

Activity boundary

A tourist route does not authorize ordinary employment in Thailand. Do not choose it as a substitute for a work, business, study or long-stay route.

Known developments and changes to watch

A Cabinet decision announced on 19 May 2026 proposed changes to visa-exemption and Visa on Arrival schemes. That announcement does not itself change this tourist-visa route; the proposed measures apply only after the relevant Ministry of Interior notices are published in the Royal Gazette and the stated effective period has elapsed.
