Thailand Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa

A detailed orientation to the BOI Long-Term Resident programme, its qualification endorsement and 10-year visa structure for eligible applicants.

What this page covers

The LTR programme is for defined high-potential applicant groups. It is not a single universal long-stay visa; the applicant must meet the current criteria for the relevant group and complete the BOI qualification-endorsement process.

Prepare the application carefully

  • Use the official Thai e-Visa portal to select the live visa category for the passport/travel-document country and current application location.
  • Applicants must be outside Thailand when applying through the e-Visa process. Do not start from an assumption that a visa is available solely because a category appears in a general list.
  • Create the e-Visa account, complete the form accurately, upload the documents requested for that exact route, pay the applicable fee and keep the approval confirmation sent by email.
  • A complete LTR qualification application and category-specific financial, employment, investment, expertise, insurance or family evidence
  • Passport and the documents requested by the BOI/LTR system
  • The qualification-endorsement notification before arranging visa issuance within its stated validity period
  • Evidence required for a dependant where the application is linked to a principal LTR holder

Visa, entry and stay are separate decisions

The BOI states that LTR is a 10-year multiple-entry visa structure. Its issuance information explains that the initial permission to stay is granted for up to five years before a further qualification review; the programme’s current rules and the issuance authority control the individual result.

Activity boundary

LTR conditions are programme-specific and can be rechecked. Do not rely on a marketing summary for income, employer, investment, insurance or dependant criteria; use the live LTR/BOI criteria and the responsible Thai mission’s e-Visa guidance.

Known developments and changes to watch

The official LTR programme publishes 2025 criteria updates, including changes affecting Work-from-Thailand Professional employer conditions. Treat those current programme pages as the operative reference; no separate category-wide change is created merely by the 2026 visa-policy review meeting.
