Other Thailand visa purposes

How to handle an official Thai e-Visa purpose that does not fit the standard tourism, work, study, family, retirement or long-term categories.

What this page covers

The Thai e-Visa portal includes an Other Visas category because not every official purpose fits a simple public label. This page helps an applicant avoid choosing a nearby but incorrect category when the actual purpose is specialized, government-linked or otherwise exceptional.

Official classification

  • Investment, government, international-organization or other non-immigrant subcategories not fully described by a broad public label
  • Specialized routes whose eligibility depends on an official host, approving agency or responsible Thai mission

Prepare the application carefully

  • Use the official Thai e-Visa portal to select the live visa category for the passport/travel-document country and current application location.
  • Applicants must be outside Thailand when applying through the e-Visa process. Do not start from an assumption that a visa is available solely because a category appears in a general list.
  • Create the e-Visa account, complete the form accurately, upload the documents requested for that exact route, pay the applicable fee and keep the approval confirmation sent by email.
  • Passport and photograph
  • A clear explanation of the real purpose and planned dates
  • Official host, sponsor, government, organization or approving-agency documentation
  • The exact checklist shown by the e-Visa portal after the correct category and application location are selected

Visa, entry and stay are separate decisions

When a purpose is specialized, the responsible Thai mission should confirm the correct route before submission. Do not infer validity, entries, stay duration or extension availability from another visa family.

Activity boundary

Selecting an incorrect common category can create inconsistent evidence and delay or invalidate the application. Use only official mission contact details and the e-Visa portal for clarification; SawaLife does not determine category eligibility.

Known developments and changes to watch

No category-specific rule change was found in the official sources reviewed for this page on 14 July 2026. Thailand’s Visa Policy Review Committee met on 30 June 2026 and was asked to develop future proposals, but that meeting did not itself create a new visa rule. Only an official notice with an effective date changes the applicable requirements.
